The workshop gathered over 60 participants of different professional backgrounds, from local governance sector, non-governmental organisations active in civil society sector, representatives of the relevant ministries from Central and Southeast Europe, South Asia and South America.

The aim of the workshop was to raise the intercultural awareness by gaining certain skills, development of capacities and knowledge in this area. The focus was on practical examples in multi-ethnical communities, with a special accent on gaining multi-cultural skills and diversities management at local level and in ethnical communities from which the workshop participants came.

Specific objectives of this workshop were:

  • Identify own values and values of other cultures and standards, from different perspectives,
  • Identify the role of public institutions in integration of the communities with diversities, as well as existing obstacles in the access to available resources, and
  • Improve analytical, communication as well as intervention skills, used in groups, institutions and communities with diversities.

PICT0016This is the second workshop organised by  MMCP programme (Management of Multi-ethnic Community Programme) within the Local Government and Public Service Reform Initiative, attended by CRP representative. The first workshop was held form 20th to 26th June 2010, also in Budapest, treating the issues of non-violent communication and conflict management in multi-ethnical communities. The lecturers at both these workshops were the European experts in this area, with enormous practical experience gained during the accession process of East European countries to the European Union, as well as during the process of conflict resolution in Mideast, particularly between Israel and Palestine: Petra Kovacs, Ana Vasilache, Katalin Pallai, Dominika Cieslikowska and Zsuzsa Katona.

The established unofficial network of participants at these trainings will ensure more efficient flow of information and exchange of experiences gained at the field in the communities with different needs and problems at different ends of the world.

CRP will be able to use knowledge and skills gained at these workshops within implementation of the projects.
